There is a pressing need to develop methods to induce early flowering and speed up citrus breeding cycles. We are addressing this need by creating transgenic citrus in which flowering can be induced using a low-cost agrochemical. Our new strains will expedite classical breeding programs and quicken the characterization of fruit quality in newly created transgenic plants. This will, in turn, expedite efforts to improve HLB-tolerance and other important traits in citrus.
