Effective analysis of policies and events that impact the citrus industry requires an understanding of the magnitude of the impact a policy or event has on the industry, the contribution the citrus industry makes to the economy in terms of income and employment, and the industry's competitive position relative to other regions and products both on the supply and on the demand side. The economic contributions of the citrus industry were last evaluated in 2009, before HLB entered California and when citrus revenue was about half what it is today. By providing updated estimates of the economic value of the citrus industry and the impacts of regulations, this project will provide regulators, industry advocates and the public better information on which to base future policies.
